About my hometown - San Diego, California

One of the major cities in California is San Diego and this coastal city is located in the southern area of the state.  The city is right near the Mexican border and was first discovered when Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo arrived there in 1542.  The area changed from Spanish control and American control over the years until the United States finally claimed ownership for the final time.

The city is located within canyons and mesas and while homes and businesses are built on the mesas, the canyons give the city an open feel.  The San Diego River flows through the city and divides it into the northern and southern sections.  There are many high peaks in San Diego, but the three that are the most notable include Cowles Mountain, Black Mountain, and Mount Soledad.

The weather in San Diego is beautiful throughout the year and it is one of the best climates in the world.  The summers are warm and dry and the winters are mild.  The city gets the most rain between December and March every year.

There are many nature preserves in San Diego including the Torrey Pines State Reserve, Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve, and the Mission Trails Regional Park.  Many endangered animals and plants can be found in this city and it has the highest number of birds as well.
